I’ll surely catch hell for this one, but flashback a year ago, to when we were college hunting.
This photo was taken while we waited for a table in a restaurant after touring Salem State University in Massachusetts.
Catherine is not quite the good sport about these things that Basil is, but no matter. Only because it was a mermaid, she stood still for five seconds so we could snap this shot. It’s a shame the sun was in her eyes and that someone’s television dish makes it seem a little like she’s wearing a huge earring.
It was a fun couple of days in a quirky town. We toured the witch museum, wandered the shops and the waterfront, watched a movie in the park and had a delightful stay in a little B&B called The Northey.
An awful lot has happened in the past year — senior year, a choral trip to Hawaii, the prom, graduation, the summer of dorm shopping. She got in to Salem State and the four other colleges she applied to, and now is settling in at Hofstra.
Already she sounds so much more grown up on the phone.
Parents Weekend starts today. Can’t wait to see her.
