This is one of those pictures that really takes me back.
Looking at it, I can just about feel this sleeping infant Catherine in my arms, smell the sweet baby scent of her hair, remember my quandary over whether I could manage to get up off the couch and transfer her to the crib without waking her.
This was taken in summer 1996, back when she seemed to be able to nod off at the drop of a hat — unless it was when I wanted her to.
Once asleep, however, she could go for a serious power nap. Those who know Basil know she came by that skill honestly.
These days, I don’t have to worry about waking her; in fact, I have to be creative to get her out of bed. The kid can sleep through anything.
She’d probably tell you that sleeping is one of her favorite activities — just as long as it’s not before midnight!
