Flashback Friday — He remembered!

Tuesday was the anniversary of our first date in 1987 and I’m a little ashamed to tell you that at 7:30 am, I was already engrossed in my workday when Basil mentioned it with a cheery “Happy Anniversary” and a kiss.

Our 20th wedding anniversary is next month, so I was more than a little confused and it took me a while to wrest my brain from the email I was composing.

OH!

Basil and me, 1987

Basil and me, 1987

This photo was taken not long after that date.

We were hanging out at Crawford Park in Rye Brook, NY, at some picnic or BBQ with the Postal buddies who then made up Basil’s social circle. I think the photo was snapped during a card game, but it might have been Trivial Pursuit (which Basil once won with the answer “Leviticus.” I do not remember the question).

I’m struck at once by the lack of gray hair and wrinkles on either of us, tickled to remember the shirt I’m wearing (it was a comfy one; wonder what happened to it…) and horrified to see Basil left the house in that “Pool Fools” T-shirt. (Back then I didn’t yet supervise his wardrobe.)

Those of you used to my current short, spiky hairstyle are also likely having a good chuckle at the ‘do I’m sporting here.

I should have owned stock in Aquanet.

  1. Happy anniversary. Basil is obviously a great guy. Anyone who remembers when your first date was — and can answer “Leviticus” to any question — must be okay.

We just celebrated our 20th in July. And I used to tutor at Rye Brook High School.

  3. We don’t know each other, but I am friends on FB with Basil as we both went to Dundee. I am enjoying your writing and now I will be your little follower. I see you are searching for a parent or parents. How is that going for you?
Never mind, I am reading your tweets.
