We’re hearing so much about Catherine’s many adventures as a counselor in training at ESF camp this summer that I had to dig up a photo from her day camp days.
This photo is from 2003, when she was attending the SoundWaters camp. It was a terrific place to spend the summer — with sailing and time at the beach in addition to usual camp activities such as crafts and sports. (Note the sea creatures she stamped on her T-shirt.) They even had weekly sleepovers!
She spent several seasons there and became a walking encyclopedia of the Long Island Sound’s sea life and features. In fact, she became so knowledgeable that in later years, they let her help run the touch tank when people came to visit.
The days were long and busy; she was inevitably exhausted when she got home.
Flash forward 10 years, and she’s still coming home from camp hot and tired, but most days with a smile on her face and a dozen fun stories to file under the category “kids do and say the darndest things.”
What fun to watch her come into her own.
