It’s true I’m trying a resolution or two in 2013, but one thing will certainly not change: I will continue to embarrass Catherine (recognizing that this is often an innate talent of mine. No effort required).
And there’s no better time than the present.
We offered a special Pajama Party Jazzercise class today at the Jazzercise Center of Southwestern Connecticut — a fun way to get people started off on their fitness resolutions. It was a terrific, high-energy class, just as I knew it would be. Many people wore their PJs, too, which made for a lot of fun conversation along with the cardio, strength and stretch.
Naturally I went all out, choosing the right pajamas (not too fuzzy lest I overheat) and even wearing my robe in place of a jacket. (I remembered a sports bra, too, even though it felt strange to wear it with my sleepwear.)
Not surprisingly, Catherine took one look at my getup and declined my invitation to participate.
But I was undaunted. I tied that robe, threw on a scarf and pair of gloves, grabbed my sneakers and struck out for the center.
Driving to class, I flashed back to the many, many (many) times my mother would hose down the driveway or empty the garbage or undertake some other outdoor task in her bathrobe. Of course, I was embarrassed every time.
And here I was, driving across Stamford in my pajamas. Have I become my mother?! 😉
Halfway through the 20-minute trip to the center, I had a bit of a panic. What if a police officer pulled me over? Here I was behind the wheel in my blue fuzzy robe and purple PJs. What would I say?
Fortunately, it didn’t come to that. Not only did I get to class in one piece, but I had a great time (even if I did miss the support and wicking qualities of workout gear up there on stage).
Here I am with Peg, right before class started:
And here’s how Kristen, Peg and I looked teaching the upper torso routine:

From left: Me, Peg and Kristen teaching in our pajamas. One day I will have a photo of me teaching that doesn’t also elicit laughter!
And here are some of our terrific customers getting their groove on:

How honored I was to start my year with this fabulous bunch of people. And unlike Catherine, none of them laughed at me. Well, at least not to my face!
Hot stuff, right?
I LOVE this idea!!!! And even better is that you posted pictures of it–brave woman! I just joined a new gym up the street and will soon be taking Zumba classes for the first time. Wonder i fI can talk them into a pajama party workout……
Why not?! Exercise should be fun! Thanks for stopping by.
Forgot to mention that I also subscribed to your site under the name marciakesterdoyle.
Great! Thank you!
Hi Terri, I’m Anne from Life on the Funny Farm (http://annesfunnyfarm.blogspot.com), and I’m visiting from the “You Like Me!” Blog Hop.
Oh boy, this had me chuckling! I remember oncce when I was in my 20s, I had to drop my then fiance off at work real early, and on the way home, I decided to take my car thru the “drive-thru” MV inspection, b/c it was the last day before it expired. Didn’t realize that I’d need to get out of the car, so there I stood in my PJs while they guys ran their tests! I was dying inside, but held my head high and tried not to show it!!!
Anyway, thanks for the chuckle! If you’ve never visited yet, I hope you can pop by my blog sometime to say hi…
Love this story! Thanks for sharing it — and for stopping by. I’m off to visit the funny farm now….

Hi April! Thanks for stopping by. I’m hopping over to you right now!
Popping over from the Growing Patch 🙂 What a very cool idea for excercising 🙂 I suspect I may make more early morning gym sessions if I went in my pjs!
Thanks for stopping by!
LOOOOOVE IT! HAHAHAH! Now that’s a sense of humor. I did that for Halloween once, I think I was 22? I went to the gas station, in my pj, robe, slippers, hair in a towel, and makeup on my face like a mask…one gal approached me and said “OH, my god. I forgot what day it was and I was like, I can’t believe this lady came out like this!” She was like that’s great!
So I can appreciate what you did!

Thanks, Reia. Why not start the year off laughing?
