(Almost) Wordless Wednesday — A Little Light ‘Reeding’

Once upon a time I played the first clarinet part of this march — from memory.

Perfectly.

My fingers flew along the keys with ease and elan.

Alas, even without the pressure to memorize, the muscle memory is short-term. My age shows with every note (and depending on which part of the transitional lenses I look through, some notes more than others).

But I WILL master this before June 7.

…If it is the last thing I do.

(And if it requires every neighbor in a 5-mile radius to buy ear plugs.)

  2. I wish I knew how to read music. I guess I’ve never learned.

  3. I played clarinet back in the day. I was never good at it, but I love the sounds it made.

Happy that you are playing again. You will do fine.

    I need to start playing.

  4. I’m still glad I never had to play the 1st clarinet part! I could never play so many notes within so few beats. I envied your skill back then, and I have every confidence that you can do it again next month! Have fun with it all!

  6. I’ve never been good at memorizing music to play. (Identification of pieces is another matter entirely.)
Violin works were hard enough. Now that I’m singing baritone in a choir, there are all of those words to add. Zulu as well as Renaissance Italian. Maybe somebody, somewhere, will let us in on the secret of doing it effortlessly?
