You’ll remember our mailbox looked like this a few weeks ago, following a driving mishap by one of our neighbors.

Monday found our mailbox down and out. Someone had backed into it overnight, snapping the post in two. A new post will be installed today, but in the meantime, the Vaneches are nothing if not resourceful. And yes, of course Catherine is embarrassed!
Here’s how it looks now, after the installation of a new post and a spanking new mailbox, which Basil affixed yesterday. The thing on the top is a solar light — a nice addition that I’m sure will come in handy, especially when the Halloween revelers come calling.
As soon as dusk falls every night, Basil is at the front door, hollering, “My light is on.”
(It’s quite obviously time for him to find work.)
As for why he bought a white mailbox to replace the hunter-green one chosen long ago to match our shutters, he said he was trying to match the gutters.
Then he added: “And so you can see it when you’re driving down the street.”
Hard to argue with that logic.

Why didn’t he get the light that spins so it will look like a beacon of light from a lighthouse.

Posted by momshieb | July 31, 2013, 7:28 amIt’s pretty cool. Last night he was trying to figure out if he could change the color of the bulb with the seasons!
