Flashback Friday — Star Power

The 14-month-old who lives next door has been spending weekend afternoons playing in his new kiddie pool. He wears a blue-and-white striped bathing suit and matching hat to splash in. In short, he is too adorable for words.

Watching him is better than TV (even “Chopped“!). Naturally every time I see him out there filling and emptying plastic cups or being told yet again to “sit down,” I think of these photos from 14 years ago, when Catherine was 3.

It was our first full summer in the house and my parents had purchased the 101 Dalmations-themed pool. As I recall, we spent a lot of time out in the yard, Basil sitting in a lawn chair and soaking his feet while she played.

As you can see from Catherine’s expression, the water was straight-out-of-the-hose chilly!

That bathing suit was one of my favorites(thank you, Land’s End).

For weeks before the weather warmed, she insisted on wearing it around the house — solo or under her play clothes!

  1. Very cute suit! Iris wears her Little Mermaid bathing suit all the time. She’s worn it to school with pants over it. She sleeps in it.

  2. I love reading what you have to say. It makes me stop and remember how lucky we are to have these memories. I took my daughter grocery shopping after reading your post yesterday!
