Brush with Creativity

What fun last night — my friend, Kristen, pulled me outside the box yet again for a night of creative exploration. We spent the evening at Art Plus Studio in SoNo … painting. You should know that although my grandmother and mother have terrific visual art talent, mine is fair to middling. As a painter, I’m … Continue reading

Saturday washout

I had a set of plans for this dull, rainy Saturday. The universe had other ideas. Oh, I managed to teach Jazzercise, get the house cleaned and run to CVS. Then I thought I’d be REALLY smart and take the comforter to the laundromat instead of laying out a ton of money to have the cleaners … Continue reading

We said yes to the dress

You’ll excuse me if this post seems a bit more scattered than usual. My brain is overwhelmed with taffeta, silk and chiffon; sequins, beads and flounces; and every sherbet hue you can conjure. I’ve been prom dress shopping with Catherine and lived to tell about it. Well, just barely. 🙂 She had been earlier this … Continue reading

Flashback Friday — Christmas in February

Flashback to 2007 … and Christmas when it is supposed to be celebrated. That was back when things were far less complicated, schedules not nearly as full. Back then, we could celebrate with my best friend, Jacquie, and her family right then, in December, when the tree was still decked out in all its glory. … Continue reading

The Aloha Diaries Part 6 — Aloha

Well, the Greenwich High choral group is on its way home, having left Honolulu a couple of hours ago. Assuming the second leg of their journey, from SFO, runs on time, United Airlines should deliver my two Valentines by supper. The kids sang one last time yesterday, at the National Cemetery of the Pacific — Punchbowl Cemetery, … Continue reading

The Aloha Diaries, Part 3 — Naval Gazing

Yesterday, the Greenwich High choral groups headed to the naval base on Ford Island in Hawaii, where they toured the Pacific Aviation Museum and performed on the dock at the Battleship Missouri. The kids are so tightly scheduled that I’ve had only brief conversations with Catherine and Basil, mostly via text message. Basil’s efforts to send me video from his phone camera … Continue reading

The Aloha Diaries, Part 2 — Quite a Hike

First full day in Hawaii was busy. They got started with a trip to Hickam Air Force Base, where there was a tour and lunch before the obligatory group picture, a piece of which Basil captured here. So far, everything seems to be going just fine, with everyone trying some new things. Basil gave poi a … Continue reading

Wordless Wednesday — A Cold Beauty

Sure the snow and cold brings plenty of inconvenience and angst. But there’s no denying it creates beauty, too. Sunday found Basil and me at Tod’s Point in Greenwich, where even though the mercury was flirting with 50 degrees, it wasn’t warm enough to melt Jack Frost’s masterpieces. Gorgeous, don’t you think?

‘S’ You, Too!

Once again, you can’t make this stuff up. I was at AAA in Stamford, CT, today to renew my driver’s license, looking to get a “verified” version with its extra-special star and identity protection. Except the bureaucrat there — I’ll call him “AAA Guy” — changed my identity. Yup; another set of bureaucrats in another … Continue reading
