Dancing Queen

A brief tribute today to my friend Pina, who will hang up her sneakers today after 13 years of teaching Jazzercise. Our little stage in Stamford, CT, won’t be the same without her beautiful smile, upbeat attitude, terrific energy and amazing shimmy.

When I first started taking Jazzercise classes 8 1/2 years ago, I went to her classes quite a bit — they were fun and a terrific workout. With Pina, I ended my day with a smile and without fail, my muscles thought of her the next day!

When I became an instructor 3 years ago, I studied her stage presence carefully and tried to incorporate some of her signature cues and style. One day, I might be lucky enough to be even half the instructor she is.

Here’s to you, Pina, and to all the fun we’ve had — on and off the stage.

Wishing all the very best. I hope we’ll continue to meet on the dance floor, again and again.
