
The main post office on Greenwich Avenue here in Greenwich — where Basil was Superintendent of Windows (no joke!) when we met 26 years ago — is now a Restoration Hardware. It opened to great fanfare in the local press this past week. The historic facade remains intact.

Center of the former workroom floor. Corner of this couch is about where Basil’s desk was. If you squint, you can almost see the cigarette smoke rising in curls from his ashtray.
