So, we’re approaching our 20th wedding anniversary, which means most of the things we own are about 20 years old.
Lately, I’ve been noticing the faded curtains; worn comforter, outdated stripes-and-flowers motif in the bedroom; the dishes that once looked so fresh and new; the bath towels that have been washed to within an inch of their lives; the see-through dish towels.
And hating every last one of them. I’ve been wishing I could hit Lotto, toss every last thing out and start over. All new stuff. The fresh coats of paint our house so desperately needs. Plush new carpeting.
Alas, there always seems to be something else that needs our money more.
But today I took a stand, went to Home Goods and refused to return home until I had a new comforter and dust ruffle.
I bought this:
After I made Basil help me remove the old dust ruffle and put the fresh one on, I posted a picture of the new look to Facebook. Some of my friends from high school (still smart-alecks all these years later) immediately presumed I’d posted one of those photos where if you stare at it long enough, some creepy thing jumps out at you.
I’m not sure what to think about it really.
Was my choice of pattern in such bad taste? (It IS Ralph Lauren…)
Is it because the curtains don’t match now? (I’ll be fixing that, I promise.)
Is there some shadow outside the window I’m not seeing?
A little help here…
I think the comforter is beautiful…I would have likely chosen a more bold bed skirt…selecting from one of the secondary colors in the comforter to give it a pop effect…but that is just me. I don’t see anyone peeking through the window 😉 Visiting from MTFU hop. Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday to you, too; the bedskirt is part of the set, the same stripe as the reverse of the comforter (which I’ve now fixed with a big foldover to show it off. … Glad you don’t see anyone peeking in the window!
My grandmother has a comforter… just like that one…. just saying.
Thanks smart-aleck friend from high school. Get in line behind Ron Mack and Judy Brewster.
I think the room looks cozy! And also very peaceful.
Have a great weekend. Just stopping by from the blog hop.

Thanks!
When we got married, I remember my mother and her contemporaries talking about the need to have a shower when you’ve been married 20 – 25 years because everything is wearing out. You’re right on schedule.
The other night I was realizing that my pots are older than my kids; my cheese grater isn’t as sharp as it was, and it’s a little lopsided from use. Towels have been replaced. As a quilter, bedcoverings are never an issue — but the curtains in the bedroom are! I made them from sheets when we moved in — way too long ago.
I like your comforter.
Thank you!
