We have a guest for the next couple of days — a relatively new friend of Catherine’s whose mom is traveling for business. The girl is lovely and already we’re having a great time.
Funny how a new face can change the whole dynamic. We’re all on our best behavior, minding our manners, using a civil tone of voice while addressing each other, going out of our way to be kind, thoughtful and respectful of each other.
Catherine is doing what she is told without an argument.
We managed to eat dinner in our clothes, not in our pajamas. We used proper serving bowls and appropriate serving utensils. And we even dusted off the rule about not answering the phone during supper.
Who knew we remembered how to do all this?
Now I just have to figure out how I can get this kid to stay. …
