Yesterday marked the last day of camp for Catherine.
The Young Leaders Program runs only five weeks each summer, which is far too short. However, it seems she has distinguished herself quite nicely. The person in charge of the YLPs told her he hoped to see her next summer — which would mean an actual summer job. YAY!
Here at home, we’ve watched quite a metamorphosis as more and more confidence and maturity have emerged week after week.
Now she’ll jump headlong in college essay drafts and heaven knows what before school starts. Lucky for her, one of the essay subjects this year is to describe a place where you feel most at home. Of course hers will be about working with young kids, and she has a ton of fodder — from this past summer, especially.
The kids must have loved her too; they are all bunched up on a goodbye video waving and saying they’ll miss her.
I will miss her coming home each day with stories about the kids’ comments and antics. Working with 3- and 4-year-olds, she’s had her share of memorable moments.
Yesterday was no exception. It took all the self-control she could muster to NOT LAUGH, and admonish the twin boys that the Psy song they were singing was not camp appropriate.
Here were their lyrics:
“Heeeeyyyy, sexy lady. Op. Op. Op.
“Going mango style.”
