Flashback Friday — Here’s lookin’ at you, Mom

Mom, year unknown.

Mom, year unknown.

Don’t you love this photo? It’s my mom, Ginger Salvatore. I’m not sure what year this was taken  or why she’s posing, but I see a certain movie-star quality to this shot that she will surely deny.

(And I can see why her wedding gown had an 18-inch waistline.)

This photo was taken at her home in Silver Lake, NY — in the same yard where I would, many years later, get an eye full of sand and spend a few days looking rather Pirates of the Caribbean.

I love the pedal pushers and the hairdo. Not sure if this was before the dye job my grandmother miraculously approved, and which turned her locks green, or after the damage had been repaired.

Mom hates having her picture taken — I will never understand why.

As a kid, I used to watch her put her makeup on and wish I would be that pretty one day.

  1. I love flashbacks. I’ve recently acquired an album (and old movies) with very young pictures of my dad and grandparents…a real treasure. Expanding my memories with ones I missed out of (arriving much later).

Fun to read your musings…all associated with one vintage picture. Thanks for sharing them.

  2. Beautiful! And not just because of the tiny waist, thick hair and perfect features. Beautiful because she looks a little unsure and vulnerable in that shot. I love it!

  4. I’m called “motor mouth” for a reason, but now I’m speechless! Almost. Pic was taken in the 50′ when I was still young, fancy free and thin. And the girls stood at attention! Yes, I’m wearing pedal pushers. We wore ’em first. Today you call them capris.
